LMG Imaging Center includes a dedicated Women’s Center for mammograms. This private and comfortable area includes changing and exam rooms and GENIUS™ 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ for better, earlier breast cancer detection for women of all ages and breast densities.
Screening mammography is a type of breast imaging that uses low-dose x-rays to detect cancer early – before women experience symptoms – when it is most treatable. Digital mammography improves imaging quality, with lower compression, for a more comfortable experience. Like digital photography, digital mammography images can be viewed instantly reducing the results turnaround time.
GENIUS™ 3D MAMMOGRAPHY
LMG Imaging Center features GENIUS™ 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ exams. Conventional 2D mammograms provide doctors with a 2D image to evaluate the breast. This can be limiting due to overlapping layers of tissue, which can sometimes produce unclear results, false alarms, or worse – cancer being missed. GENIUS™ exams deliver a series of detailed breast images, allowing your doctor to better evaluate your breasts layer by layer for greater accuracy – meaning better breast cancer detection and a reduced chance of being called back for additional screenings. It’s the only mammogram FDA approved for women with dense breasts.
Do not schedule your mammogram for the week before your menstrual period if your breasts are usually tender during this time. The best time for a mammogram is one week following your period. Always inform your doctor or x-ray technologist if there is any possibility that you are pregnant.
Do not wear deodorant, talcum powder or lotion under your arms or on your breasts on the day of the exam. These can appear on the mammogram as calcium spots.
Describe any breast symptoms or problems to the technologist performing the exam.
Obtain your prior mammograms and make them available to the radiologist if they were done at a different location. This is needed for comparison with your current exam and can often be obtained on a CD.
Follow up with your physician for your results.
